Envisioning the world's northmost Islamic Garden for the Aga Khan Foundation
Morean GmbH was commissioned to create this animation for the announcement ceremony in of the Aga Khan Garden in Edmontin which took place in April 2017. The film puts all emphasis on the peacefulness and harmony of this unique place and place of intercultural encounters. We outlined the specific cultural elements in a balanced relationship to each other and the nature, since the park was meant to become a fusion of the inherent characteristics of the North-American nature together with a modern interpretation of Islamic architecture.
The garden opened its gates at the University of Alberta in 2008. It is financed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, which focuses on the physical, social, cultural and economic revitalisation of communities and exchange. The intention of the new park is to renew and deepen the connection between cultures and communities.

“Our collaboration with Morean was very rewarding. They took the time and care to really dive deep and understand the aesthetic and intellectual underpinnings of the project. Then they explored methodologies that not only created beautiful imagery, but emphasized those important aspects. Their ability to render the experience within both wild and constructed landscapes was a particular joy. Morean’s working methodology was inclusive and iterative, and we felt a true partnership. The end result was one that is elegant and informative and has been extremely useful in building excitement for this important place.”
